Here is the Lords of the Fallen Back to the Void trophy guide which will help you reach the Umbral Ending which I strongly recommend you do on your third playthrough partly because you’ll know the game very well by then but also as you will need to take down the toughest boss in the base game, Elianne the Starved who could take out most of the other bosses without even breaking a sweat. There are many steps most of which are missable as you work towards unlocking the Umbral Ending, the most important of which being you must NOT use the Rune of Adyr to open the gates to Bramis Castle. You must instead enhance the Rune of Adyr in Mother’s Lull so it becomes the Withered Rune but we’ll get to all of that in this guide. Follow these steps then as long as you are strong enough to take down the true final boss you will reach the Umbral Ending:
Do NOT Cleanse ANY Beacon
There are 5 Beacons in Lords of the Fallen, if you cleanse any of them you will fail to achieve the Umbral Ending so ensure you don’t go anywhere near them just to be on the safe side.
Speak To Damarose 3 Times
You will need to speak to Damarose the Marked 3 times which then causes her to move to the cavern where the Shrine of Adyr can be found. The 3 closest Vestiges you will need to work from then speak to her will be:
- Pilgrim’s Perch, Vestige of Chabui.
Enter the Chapel then drop down the ladder after crossing the beam and speak to Damarose exhausting her dialogue. - Pilgrim’s Perch, Vestige of Blind Agatha.
Enter the tunnel just before going through to the Gentle Gaverus, Mistress of Hounds boss and speak to Damarose. - Forsaken Fen, Vestige of the Pale Butcher.
Ignore the Crimson Rector Percival boss then speak to Damarose who will be at the start of the straight path leading down to the cavern at the back of Fitzroy’s Gorge.
Don’t worry about her questline or anything else for Damarose as the next thing need to to her is kill her later in the game but we’ll get to that.
Free Gerlinde
Location: Pilgrim’s Perch, Vestige of Blind Agatha.
After removing the Umbral Entity, go through and down the ladders to the lower level, kill the Knight then collect the Cell Key and speak to Gerlinde inside her cell. Hand her the Key to free her where she will then move to Skyrest Bridge.
Access Shrine Of Adyr
Location: Fitzroy’s Gorge, Vestige of the Pale Butcher.
Take out the Ruiner then go into Umbral and Soulflay the corpse at the end of the bridge to remove the Umbral Entity from the bridge. Drop down and platform your way across to solid ground where you can go up the hill to the cavern which holds the Vestige of Betrayed Eliard and the Shrine of Adyr. You will also find Damarose looking over the fires of Mournstead.
Defeat The Unbroken Promise
Location: Revelation Depths, Vestige of Lost Berescu.
As this is your third playthrough you should know how to access Revelation Depths but if not then defeat the SkinStealer once you’re done in the Sunless Skein region then take the Drainage Control Key down the ramp and through the sewers, take the left path then climb the ladder and open the gate. Pull the lever then make your way down through Revelation Depths to the Vestige of Lost Berescu underneath the final platform. Head down the stairs and take out both Harrower Dervla and the Unbroken Promise bosses.
Purchase The Umbral Scouring Clump
Location: Skyrest Bridge, Vestige of Ethryg.
Go into Umbral once you’re back at Skyrest Bridge then purchase the Umbral Scouring Clump from Molhu for 50 Umbral Scourings. Refer to the Lingering Moments guide if you’re short of currency.
Access Mother's Lull
Location: Revelation Depths, Vestige of Lost Berescu.
Go back to the arena where you defeated the Unbroken Promise then go up the stairs and use the Umbral Scouring Clump on the Well entrance to access Mother’s Lull.
Obtain And Use Damarose Seedpod
Location: Mother’s Lull, Vestige of Lost Berescu.
Now that you’re in Mother’s Lull, speak to the Revenant who will give you the Damarose Seedpod. Fast travel to the Vestige of Betrayed Eliard after leaving Mother’s Lull (interact with the Well again). Speak to Damarose and use the Damarose Seedpod on her to kill Damarose and send her to Mother’s Lull.
Obtain And Use Gerlinde Seedpod
Location: Revelation Depths, Vestige of Lost Berescu.
Go back to Mother’s Lull and speak to the Revenant again to receive Gerlinde’s Seedpod. Take the Seedpod to Gerlinde in Skyrest Bridge and use it on her to kill the Blacksmith sending her to Mother’s Lull.
Obtain The Rune Of Adyr
Location: Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters, Vestige of Rosamund.
Go through the Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters and collect the Rune of Adyr from the shrine.
Defeat The Lightreaper
Location: Upper Calrath, Vestige of Ethryg.
If you haven’t done so already go through to Upper Calrath and kill the Lightreaper boss where you will acquire the Lightreaper’s Umbral Parasite.
Use The Lightreaper's Umbral Parasite
Location: Skyrest Bridge, Vestige of Ethryg.
Go back to Skyrest Bridge and into Umbral, go to Molhu then look at the pillar on the right side which you will now be able to interact with and place the Lightreaper’s Umbral Parasite.
Defeat The Iron Wayfarer
Location: Upper Calrath, Vestige of the Forgotten Guardian.
Go through Upper Calrath and defeat the Iron Wayfarer. After the fight do NOT use the Rune of Adyr on the gates.
Do NOT Enter Bramis Castle
Location: Upper Calrath, Vestige of the Forgotten Guardian.
With the Iron Wayfarer down please ensure you do NOT use the Rune of Adyr to open the gates, if you do then you might as well go to a Vestige and reroll a new playthrough as it WILL negate the Umbral Ending. We need to enhance the Rune of Adyr before using it.
Get Withered Rune & Melchior Seedpod
Location: Mother’s Lull, Vestige of Lost Berescu.
Return to Mother’s Lull and choose to enhance the Rune of Adyr with the Revenant which will then become the Withered Rune of Adyr, you will also receive the Melchior Seedpod.
Kill Sundered Monarch
Location: Bramis Castle, Vestige of the Bloody Pilgrim.
Go through Bramis Castle now that you have the Withered Rune to open the gates and defeat the Sundered Monarch.
Destroy Adyr
Location: Bramis Castle, Vestige of the Bloody Pilgrim.
With the Sundered Monarch down you now need to go up the stairs and interact with Adyr’s chrysalis choosing to use the Melchior Seedpod which then properly kills Adyr.
Kill The Iron Wayfarer
Location: Fief of the Chill Curse, Vestige of Svornil.
Get over to the Fief then head up round the walkways and along the main path pass the Hounds and Ranger where you can climb the ladder and drop down. Look off to your left to see the Iron Wayfarer who will be there regardless of if you have progressed his questline (refer to the, The Last Step guide if you need help with his quest) and use the Withered Rune on the Wayfarer. This will kill him giving him the rest he has been yearning for. You will also receive Harkyn’s Parasite.
Use Harkyn's Parasite
Location: Skyrest Bridge, Vestige of Ethryg.
Go back to Skyrest Bridge, into Umbral then up the stairs where you can use the Harkyn’s Parasite on the left pillar.
Soulflay Pieta
Location: Skyrest Bridge, Vestige of Ethryg.
Now that you have placed both Parasite’s rest back at the Vestige then once you’re confident you can beat the toughest boss in the game speak to Pieta and Soulflay her which will send you through a glitching cutscene and transport you down to the Revelation Depths.
Defeat Elianne The Starved
Location: Revelation Depths, Vestige of Lost Berescu.
You will take on Elianne the Starved who is a very tough boss who not only summons a clone but also spawns a lot of eyeballs which track you and inflict a decent amount of damage per hit. She is tough and if you die you will need to get back to the Vestige of Lost Berescu, go back through the arena and engage her again. Overcome the odds and defeat her which will then reward you with Elianne’s Parasite.
Place Elianne's Parasite
Location: Skyrest Bridge, Vestige of Ethryg.
Take the Elianne’s Parasite back to Skyrest Bridge then place it in the third pillar (top left).
Talk To Molhu
Location: Skyrest Bridge, Vestige of Ethryg.
Speak to Molhu once you have placed Elianne’s Parasite where he will then sacrifice himself in the hope he receives the Putrid Mother’s embrace.
Trigger The Umbral Ending
Location: Mother’s Lull, Vestige of Ethryg.
Having watched Molhu sacrifice himself you will then be in Mother’s Lull, platform across to the final platform which will trigger rather uninspired Umbral ending. You will also unlock Back to the Void.
